Oh no! An elk next to the trail!
At Lone Elk Park, near St. Louis, herds of elk are usually seen at quite a distance. In the many times I’ve hiked there, I’d never seen elk so close to the trail. When I walked past this cow, I could’ve reached out and touched her. Super-glad it wasn’t rut season — males become very aggressive and you could end up with elk antlers in your gizzard.
I can’t believe you got that close to them and they didn’t spook! I love wildlife of any kind, and I can imagine hiking this was quite amazing.

LOL – it’s like they had all come to the park to watch the Hoomans attempt to walk the trail! Very cool that they didn’t run away!
