This past weekend was spent near the Shawnee Wine Trail in a VRBO cabin called the ToolShed. My sister and I have had great experiences with VRBO and this was no exception. Cute 2 bedroom cabin, jet tubs, large showers, fully appointed kitchen, air conditioning, deer heads on the walls …. what more could a gal want?!
This was our first girl’s trip that included our mother, my niece, and my great-niece, Clara. The weather was kinda crap on Sunday, but we did get everyone, including my mother and her cane, out onto a paved trail to look at the changing leaves and the rock formations at Giant City State Park. We were definitely on the lookout for snakes but, gratefully, none were found.
We also stopped at a super-cool park called Boo Castle Park in Carbondale. The park was created by a family who lost their son at an early age. He must’ve loved knights, castles, and Harry Potter, because the park was amazing! Dragons, Druids, Ogres …. very cool. Clara loved it.
The wineries were for the big girls, of course, but most have something for children as well, such as sparkling juice. We went to Big Sky winery on Saturday, on our way to the cabin, and Owl Creek on Sunday. The main tasting building at Big Sky is fashioned after a 400 year old Tuscan villa! Beautiful place and really great wine.
Another successful mini-vacay with so many memories made. Clara, for being only 7 1/2, is a wonderful traveler. Next year? Maybe Louisville, Ky.
